Eastnor Classic

Sunday 30th June

Three club members entered the Eastnor classic Olympic distance tri on Sunday 29th June. It was warm with a moderate prevailing breeze and luckily some cloud cover. A lovely venue, and fairly challenging course. The overall impression was that the swim was longer than 1500m, but Roddy swam well (27.30) and was first out of the castle lake and onto the bike, with Leigh close behind (29.29), and Fran (33.40) with plenty of work to do out on the bike course as usual!

By the end of lap two of the hilly bike leg Roddy was maintaining eighth position (1.28.17), Fran had moved up 20 places (1.33.11), and Leigh had dropped back a bit (1.34.19). We were all in one piece, and no collisions with sheep had marred our performances!

The temperature was ideal on the 10k run, and a little cooling rainfall towards the end helped competitors. Roddy's time of 40.13 kept him in contention, finishing 7th overall and 3rd male vet, Leigh (44.49, finishing 21st overall) was caught by Fran (41.16) who finished 20th, and was 1st female overall. As the main sponsor failed to show on the day, the prizes were free entries to next year's competition (will it be the classic again, or the middle distance race?!).
